BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF LATE REV FR PATRICK BABATUNDE ADEGBITE
Rev Fr Patrick Babatunde Adegbite, was born on March 17th, 1959, to the family of Chief Emmanuel Adegbite and Mrs. Elizabeth

Adegbite of Imeko, Ogun State, South-West Nigeria.
He had his primary education at St Augustine’s Primary School Imeko in Ogun State. He later attended St Theresa’s Minor Seminary, Oke-Are, Ibadan, where he nurtured his priestly dream.
After his secondary education, he worked with the Ogun State Education Board and the Ogun State Housing Corporation from 1976 – 1978. He later proceeded to the Major Seminary of SS Peter and Paul, Bodija, Ibadan, where he studied philosophy and theology, en route to fulfilling his dream of becoming a Catholic priest.
On 16th March 1985, he was ordained a deacon in his hometown of Imeko in Ogun State and on November 30th 1985, Revd. Fr. Patrick Adegbite was solemnly ordained as a Catholic priest at Holy Family Catholic Church, Festac Town, Lagos.
Within the years of his service as a Catholic priest in God’s vineyard, Fr Adegbite was saddled with so many responsibilities in the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, he served as Chaplain and Spiritual Director to various Lay Societies in the Church. Notable among them are St Jude Archdiocesan Council, Catholic Charismatic Renewal, Chairman Synod Committee, Chairman Evangelization 2000 and Chairman Lay Apostolate.
Fr Adegbite in his untiring efforts, continued to encourage different sets of people to practice sanctity and holiness. This he achieved by organizing revivals, retreats and also through his healing ministry. He was well known for his vibrant preaching of the gospel of Christ and for his oratory.
His love for children and his encouragement of the youth into the priesthood and religious life, was something outstanding. He gave scholarship to so many people in seminaries, convents, secondary schools, teaching training colleges, school for the blind, universities at various levels and vocational schools, through his Education Support Foundation. He established a Motherless babies Home, with the support of the members of the Association of the Friends of Jesus, a group he founded to assist with his ministry and mission work.
Revd. Fr. Patrick Adegbite served in many parishes in the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, notable among them are:
– St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Ladipo Shogunle.
– St Judes Catholic Church Mafoluku.
– Sacred Heart Catholic Church Badagry.
– SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Shomolu.
– St Gabriel’s Catholic Church Ladi-Lak, Bariga.
– St Anthony’s Catholic Church, Gbaja, Surulere.
– SS Mulumba and David Catholic Church, Idi-Mangoro.
– Holy Family Catholic Church, Festac Town.
– SS Peter and Paul Itesi, Abeokuta.
– SS Philip and James Catholic Church, Lekki.
Revd. Fr. Patrick Adegbite through his ministry and evangelization, established from scratch, over 50 Catholic Churches in Lagos and Ogun States, both in South-West Nigeria.
Fr Adegbite wrote a lot of books among which are:
– One Accord Prayers (Devotional and radical breakthrough prayers).
– Spiritual Pathway (Monthly magazine on Catholic doctrines, now being published by the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos).
– My Favourite Prayer book (Book on Christian virtues and radical prayers).
– St Anthony’s Prayer book (English and Yoruba).
– Stations of the cross booklet.
Revd. Fr Patrick Adegbite was the founder and first Spiritual Director of the Association of the Friends of Jesus and the Volunteers for Christ, which was a group of Catholics who usually undertake radical preaching of the Gospel in buses and in the neighbourhood. The members also undertook office evangelization, desk to desk preaching, market preaching, village evangelization, morning cry etc. The Volunteers for Christ was later merged with the Friends of Jesus in order to perform all the evangelization activities as one group. He worked with the Friends of Jesus Association, to evangelize the Lekki region and establish outstation, which later became parishes. He is also known to have evangelized and established outstations in the various other regions of the Archdiocese, where he worked.
His 3rd Friday monthly vigils and Last Sunday Breakthrough programs as well as the Friday breakthrough programs, were well attended by Catholics and people of other denominations, from Lagos and environs. He made a lot of people to know and serve God better, by leading them to a close encounter with God. He jump-started the spiritual lives of many, through prayers and various spiritual activities. As a result of his works and the power of God that manifested through him, many people were healed, had their breakthrough and recorded wonderful testimonies of God’s power in their lives.
He was sought after by people in distress, either spiritual or physical and the people never he encountered, always had testimonies of God’s power in their lives. His outdoor revivals and retreats always witnessed the power and presence of God as well as the October Breakthrough program, which he organized yearly in the month of October.
Revd. Fr Patrick Adegbite was gruesomely martyred by unknown gunmen on the 31st October 2007, shortly after he concluded the October breakthrough program for that year. His death was greatly felt by all and it shook the entire Archdiocese of Lagos, as it was a great shock to all. He was buried at the Ikoyi Cemetery in Ikoyi, Lagos.
He was survived at the time of his death by his aged parents and siblings.
The Friends of Jesus Association however, has continued in line with the teaching and principles laid by Revd. Fr. Patrick Adegbite, to evangelize and win souls for Christ.
