Talk Presenter: Mr Chibuzo Akubueze
Talk Topic: Total Dependence on God
Bible Reference: Habakkuk 3:17-19.
Figs, grapes olives, corn, sheep and cattle were the main commodities at the time of prophet Habakkuk that the Israelites survived on. So the passage depicts a hopeless situation whereby the people the people had nothing to fall back on or survive but still hoped On God and had faith in God.
God’s children are at times faced with such situations where we start out with optimistic plans but along the way, things go wrong and we are left with nothing.
What then do we do? Do we then start complaining, worrying or look for someone to blame for the unfortunate events?
Even though physically things may be bad, we have the assurance as God’s children that God can never leave us stranded.
Jeremiah 29:11, tells us of God’s plans for us which are for good. His blessings have a gestation period and when the blessings manifest, they do so with so much glory coming to us.
Examples of people in the bible who depended totally on God even when there seemed to be no hope include:
Job, who in the midst of his terrible affliction continued to hope and trust in God.
Hannah, who relentlessly depended on God knowing that despite the challenges she faced, that He would answer her.
Joseph, who even in captivity in Egypt and in prison, never stopped depending on and trusting God.
We need to have faith in order to uphold our confidence in God Almighty and sustain us till our blessings come.
It is God that give us strength, directs our steps and makes us sure footed like the deer and provides us the security we need.
So even though the fig tree doesn’t blossom, the rivers run dry, the crops fail, the animals all die, we shall always remain conquerors through every situation and unfavourable circumstance because we have total dependence on God.
